Extension F. A. Q.

Tape In and Beaded Weft Extensions

-Tape in extensions and beaded weft are one of the most popular method of “permanent” extensions. Tape Ins are applied with a tape that has a bonding agent and the 2 pieces are “sandwiched” together. Beaded wefts (commonly referred to as hand tied) are a large weft of hair that is sewn onto silicone beads we apply to your hair. Both methods are completely safe for your hair, and cause no damage when installed by a certified extension artist.

How long does it take to apply?

-The installation time varies based on the amount of hair being installed. Typically, you can expect it to take about an hour and a half.

How long do they last?

-Both must be moved up every 6-8 weeks. We use a solvent to remove your tape in extensions, retab them, and reinstall. For hand tied, we simply cut the thread, and pop the beads out. We reapply new beads and resew them in. It is recommended to replace the hair every 6 months or so, but depending on how they are cared for they can have a much longer life span.

Who are they good for?

-Literally, anyone!! Want a pop of color in your bangs but you don’t want to dye your hair? Tape ins. Have fine hair on the sides and just want some fullness? Either option works. Want a swing bob, but you still have a lot of growing out to do? Either type is perfect. Want length and/or volume? Use either or even a combo! This is good for fine, medium, coarse, straight, or curly hair types. Very rarely are there situations we feel is not a good fit for these.

Can I feel them?

-When installed correctly you should not feel them in your hair. They can be worn comfortably up or down. You will notice the weight in the beginning but it only takes a couple days to get used to it!

What do I have to do differently?

-There isn’t much you have to change when having extensions. You definitely want an extension SAFE shampoo and conditioner. Washing your hair is not any different, you just want to make sure you rinse extremely well to prevent build up. You cannot apply product directly to tape tabs with tape in extensions or you risk them slipping out. We do recommend deep conditioning the extensions, and using leave in conditioner or serum to prolong their health.

We do not recommend going to bed with them wet, and when you sleep it is recommended to put your hair in braids or pigtails to avoid any pulling or tangling. I also recommend using our extension brush with the extensions to keep the hair in the best shape possible.

What if there’s not a color that matches mine?

-Awesome news is you CAN color or tone these, but with the selection of colors we have it, is rarely needed.

What brand do you use and why?

-We use Bellami, Aqua, or JZ styles. After trying a few popular brands, we truly feel that these are the best quality. The hair is Indian Remy ponytail hair. This means all the hair is guaranteed to be going in the same direction. It is lifted slowly to prevent the cuticle from blowing out or damaging the hair and colored with a special textile dye that prevents any fading. It is then followed with a treatment to prolong hair life.

What do these cost?

-Cost is a hard thing to give a definitive answer to. It depends on the length and amount of hair needed. We recommend setting up a consultation to discuss what you need and what it would cost overall.

Are people going to see them?

-When installed correctly, no. The extensions stay below your temple and crown of your head (unless determined its necessary to adjust that). If you have any that are visible, please contact us and we will move it for you. This occasionally happens with tape ins, while hand tied wefts don’t typically have this issue due to how they are installed. The first installation is where we learn what placement is best for you and your lifestyle.

What if I just want to take them out and not reinstall?

-We offer that as a service. It is a variable price as it matters how well you took care of your hair and what removing them consists of. We HIGHLY recommend getting them removed/reinstalled within 8 weeks of the previous install. If either extension type grow out too long, they can twist and tangle or dread your hair, so it is crucial maintenance/removal is done in that time frame. We are still happy to assist if it is past that time period, we just recommend it being done then.
